A lot of Americans have the newspaper delivered and after they read it just throw it away. Newspapers can be used for many household chores and other things.
- In the fridge you can line your vegetable drawers with the paper to adsorb moisture. The moisture will reduce smells as well.
- Line your kitty box or garbage can. The paper helps to control smells and absorb moisture.
- During rain or snow storms leave newspaper near the door to absorb moisture from peoples boots to help keep the floors clean. If the inside of your shoes gets wet put newspaper inside to help dry them out.
- To prevent compost from spelling put strips of newspaper in with your compost. It helps to absorb the nasty smells and will compost with the rest of the material.
- Make a mixture of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water and use newspaper to clean the windows, tvs and other glass around the house. Soak some of the vinegar/water up with the newspaper and clean in a circular motion, then use a dry piece to get off any left over liquid.
- Make newspaper seeding pots instead of buying them. You need a jar, wrap the paper around the jar and tuck the tails into the base, remove the jar and fill with soil.
- Newspaper is great for kindling a fire, its burns hot and fast. If you roll newspaper into a tube it will burn similar to a log.
- Keep newspaper in the garage to soak up spills of gas or oil. It can prevent permanent stains on concrete.
- If you are big on recycling let the papers dry and then recycle them.
