There is a unique family of fish called the flat fish that have both of their eyes on one side of their head! Some of these fish are the halibut, flounder and sole. They are born with eyes on both sides of their head like any other fish, as they grow the begin to swim on their side. The fish later start to swim at the bottom of the sea on their side, with 1/2 of their body covered in mud/sand. The fish continues to grow and the underside eye gradually moves to the other side of the head. The fish spends so much of their time on the bottom of the ocean it makes since that they have their eyes on one side. If the fish swims towards the surface it is in danger because one side of their body is blind. The flatfish is also able to blend its color into the surroundings.
