A better saying may be “blind as a mole” although they are not completely blind they see very poorly. Moles live in dark underground tunnels that they dig themselves so the don’t have much of a need for their vision. They have small eyes that are partially covered with fur and skin. 

Moles are very good burrowers and their bodies are built for this task. A moles front feet are strong to allow for digging or scooping soil. Moles create mole hills by scooping the dirt to the surface. Mole tunnels can ruin gardens.

Moles weigh between 1.5 and 5 ounces. Daily a mole eats its weight in food, mostly worms and insects. 

Moles dig underground as fast as they walk above ground. Moles often come above ground when it rains to eat worms that are on the surface. Moles have  a thick coat of fur.
