How to Add More Fiber to Your Diet

Posted on 27 April 2009 by admin

dietary fiberWe all see the commercials for diet supplements and meal plans but do they actually work? One way to lose weight naturally is as easy as addiing fiber to your diet. Fiber doesn’t have side effects like diet pills and can naturally suppress your appetite.
Fiber helps to keep you full and regular. High fiber diets helps your body to pass calories, some before they are absorbed.

  • Add whole foods in place of processed foods. Oatmeal has a lot more fiber then fruit loops. Substitute white bread for whole grain bread, etc.
  • Add more fruit to your diet, not fruit juice. Fruit has fiber, juice does not.
  • Eat some vegetables to fill up, avoid starchy vegetables. Eat some raw vegetables or salad when you need a snack or as a side dish. Fill half your dinner plate with vegetables.
  • Nuts are a great snack that is full of fiber and healthy fats but don’t eat them to much cause they are packed with calories.
  • Beans are another great option. They are healthy and a great source of protein and fiber.
  • Processed foods are low in fiber, high in calories and fats like saturated fat and trans fats. Avoid cookies, pastries, cakes, etc.
