How to Apply Soft Paws to Your Cats Nails

Posted on 26 January 2009 by admin

soft pawsCats can really take a toll on furniture while de-clawing may seem inhumane, there are other solutions like Soft Paws.

Soft Paws are non-toxic nail cover that are glued on to the nails so they cannot claw things and they last 6-8 weeks.

The supplies you need are the nail kit, clippers, a helper and a towel. You may need gloves as well.

First, you need to make sure your cat is calm, but you may want to wear gloves to protect yourself from being scratched. Now wrap the cat in the towel and pet them until they are calm. Now pull one paw out of the blanket and grip it just below the paw. Now have the helper clip the nails while you restrain the cat.

Push your thumb against the “palm” of their foot to expose the nails for easy cutting. Just cut off the tip to ensure you don’t damage the cats nail. Now fill the Soft Paw with glue and slid it onto the nail.

You have to repeat this step on each nail. Do the front paws first in case the cat gets too stressed and you can finish. The back paws are not as important anyway. Watch the cat for a few minutes to ensure the covers don’t fall off. The covers need to be changed ever 6-8 weeks but after about a month they may fall off so always keep your eyes open.
